Rumor: Destiny 2 could bring the icebreaker back in the near future

Destiny 2 is continually growing thanks to the many updates to Bungies, be it new seasons or annual expansions the size of Forsaken and Beyond Light. With The Witch Queen on the horizon, Bungie will add even more things to do and items to get in Destiny 2, but there's a notable stop on the way to February next year in the form of the 30th Anniversary Pack. The DLC will launch on all platforms on December 7, and with it, Bungie will add a new dungeon, a six-player activity, and a host of replay loot.

This includes Gjallarhorn arriving in Destiny 2 after years of Destiny glory, or other classics like Eyasluna and 1000-Yard Stare, but Bungie didn't divulge much about what's to come with the Pack. Considering there will be a big sandbox patch coming up with the 30th anniversary pack, which includes a lot of skill changes and Stasis nerfs, it's not impossible that Bungie has more planned for this great event. Of course, there will be ornaments and items tied to previous Bungies games, like Marathon, but that's probably not all. Today, a Reddit user by the name of xOnslaught shared what appears to be the percentage of weapon use for the top picks in Destiny 2, likely Trials of Osiris. The screenshot includes a lot of weapons that are already in the game, and some that are not, among which Ice Breaker is the most relevant of all.

The weapon is an exotic sniper rifle from the first installment in the series, and it became extremely popular due to its ability to regenerate ammo over time rather than having to reload.

The weapon as-is will likely never be reworked in Destiny 2, as it would break the ammo economy, as it already did in the Trials of the Nine in Destiny. Still, the fact that Eyasluna is in the same screenshot lends credibility to the source, considering that the popular hand cannon is coming to Destiny 2 with the aforementioned 30th anniversary bundle. This would make Ice Breakers return with the same DLC, which would justify why their data is already there.

Still, Joe Blackburn stated during a recent interview with Teawrex that Destiny's weapons are never the same when replayed in Destiny 2, and that's because the two games are very different from each other at the moment. This doesn't invalidate the idea that Ice Breaker could still return, but at this point, it's just a rumor.
