Spending Free Time Constructively.
How should I spend my free time constructively?
As we grow up, the amount of responsibilities we take on can cause our lifestyles to be very hectic. Because of this, free time has become more scarce and valuable for the majority of adults. Due to this limited leisure time, we often do not know what to do with ourselves when we find some empty time in our schedules. Without a plan for this time, people often find themselves binge watching TV, gaming, or mindlessly surfing the internet for hours, resulting in no future benefit. For those who aim to better themselves and be more productive, the following activities are sure to fill your free time with rewarding benefits.
Exercising - It's both fun and beneficial to wellbeing.
Unfortunately over time, humans have become more sedentary due to the increasing amount of desk jobs and technological advances that make our lives easier. While hundreds of years ago people could get their daily physical activity by working on the farm or performing manual labor, people now have to make a more concerted effort to obtain sufficient exercise.
Exercise offers a multitude of benefits, often of which do not require a large time commitment to realize. According to experts, low intensity exercise, can result in a drop in fatigue levels, and an increase in energy. Therefore, exercising during your free time will leave you feeling accomplished and revitalized to take on your other life commitments.
Reading - It's both a relaxing and self-improving activity.
I understand that not everyone is a bookworm and that the majority of individuals don't jump at the opportunity to crack open a novel in their free time. But if you get some free time, reading can sure be a constructive way to utilize that time. Books or articles about how you live on a day to day basis and topics like; personal finance, fitness, and social skills are some very practical skills that reading can provide you.
Due to the small amount of avid readers, a large opportunity is left for you to raise your knowledge levels amongst your peers and rise to the top. With expertise, comes the opportunity to provide value, which is a ticket to financial success. Your free time therefore, maybe a chance to pure intelligence and potentially even turn a quick buck.
Meditation - It's the ultimate activity when in need of deep relaxation and serenity.
Meditation has been proven thousands of times as being very beneficial for our physical and mental health. Unfortunately, many people find the act of meditating to be very boring as it involves sitting in one place while controlling your thoughts, and breathing.
It may not be as exciting as gaming, or watching a movie, but meditation has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and increase your attention span, which are all very important factors for self-improvement and your overall wellbeing. Moreover, meditation trains your brain to focus on certain thoughts, allowing you to block off negativity and embrace positive emotions, leading to increased happiness in your life.
Spending time nurturing relationships is another constructive way to spend free time.
Family and friends:
As previously stated, life's commandments can be very demanding leaving little time for the ones we care about the most. It can be easy to sink an hour or two into Facebook when we find ourselves having free time, and it may not always dawn upon us that we could be spending time with family or friends instead. However, while it’s easier to turn on TV and binge watch your favorite show, the long term benefits of having strong relationships with the people in your social circle is much more valuable, and will be something you can cherish for the years to come. Furthermore, reaching out to a family member or friend in your downtime, not only leave you feeling good, but could be the uplifting event that they needed to get them through the day.
In conclusion, finding free time can be like finding a needle in a haystack. The busy lives we lead offer limited opportunities for doing unscheduled activities, which often leaves us confused as to how best to use this time. As previously stated, there are many activities that you can see benefits from with just a few minutes of effort that can have a direct impact on your health, intelligence and relationships with the ones you love the most.
