Why Do People Wear Timepieces?

people wear watches because they have a sentimental attachment to them.

Humans have always been fascinated by time. The earliest timekeeping methods date back to 3500 BCE, when people in Egypt and Mesopotamia used sundials to keep time. Our reasons for wearing watches have evolved over time, as watches have come to serve a variety of functions, ranging from indicating social status to tracking our health.

Almost two-thirds simply want to know what time it is.
63.5% of UK watch wearers simply want to know when it's time to leave work. It stands to reason that more people would prefer functionality over fashion, but the ratio has never been so skewed. Our working lives have become much more frantic over time. This is evident in the design of everything from buildings to smartphones. We care more about how something works than how it looks, and watches are no exception.

One out of every ten people brush their teeth, eat breakfast, and put on a watch.
We discovered that 10% of people simply wear watches every day as part of their everyday attire. Some people (including ourselves) are not at ease without a watch. The result is the same whether it is to tie their outfit together or because they enjoy the look and feel of a watch on their wrist. Every day, you walk out into the world wearing a watch.

In our survey, we discovered that 53% of men wore watches out of habit, whereas only 47% of women did.

Only one in fifty people wear watches for sentimental reasons.
We were surprised to learn that only 1.7% of people wear watches because they have a sentimental attachment to them. Are people losing interest in gifting watches, or do they keep their sentimental watches somewhere safe to avoid damage? We'll never know for sure, but we do know that watches are still being inherited and gifted every day to people who will cherish them for the rest of their lives.

In our survey, we discovered that 53% of men wear watches for sentimental value, compared to 47% of women.

Why Do You Always Wear A Watch? More importantly, does it make a difference?
Whatever your reason for wearing your timepiece every day, whether it's to elevate your outfit or simply to tell the time, it doesn't make a big difference. At the end of the day, this makes you a proud watch owner, and that's all that matters.
