What a strange experience it would be if suddenly you woke up to a world where everyone wears the same type of clothing, and shares the same sense of style. Would you feel confused? Would you feel lost? As you wander down the streets, everyone would just seem like a clone of the next person, the world would appear to be a lot less colorful and interesting. What would it be like to live in a world like that?

Why Fashion Is Important

A world without fashion is a world where everyone looks like a clone of the next person.

Fashion defines who you are.

Fashion helps us connect with society.

Fashion helps us evolve.

Would you feel lost? As you wander down the streets, everyone would just seem like a clone of the next person, the world would appear to be a lot less colorful and interesting. Sometimes we underestimate the importance of fashion in our daily lives? I mean it’s such an important part of who we are, it's an extension of ourselves, and also a way of expressing who we are, in what we wear.

Some people like to give the opinion that fashion is wasteful, and that you don't need it in order to live. They are of the view that fashion is materialistic. It is suffice to note however, that fashion really defines who we are, which makes it important to invest in how you present yourself.

Because fashion helps define who we are, it helps connect us to society. Through fashion we can get to be instantly recognizable as having a certain character and thus express who we are without having to speak. It is one of the reasons that fashion is really so significant.

Fashion also helps to evolve us and not just our society. We’re after all, a reflection of what we wear. It's not likely or perhaps that, we are wearing clothes that we had when we were a teenager, or when we were in our 20s. This is not because they don't fit us anymore but in a way, we feel that they are outdated and thus need to evolve. As the clothes evolve, so do ourselves to make sure that we're connected in that sort of way.

Fashion inspires creativity, and I don't just mean creativity for the creators of garments, but for every single one of us. We all have the opportunity to create meaning and purpose in our lives. Through the creation of garments or finding the garment coordination that fits our style, body type, or interests, we’re being creative.

There's also the idea of how our clothes can address some of the issues around society. Innovations such electronic fibers being incorporated into our garments so they can administer drugs, the idea that our clothes could heat up to warm our bodies, the list goes on. These innovations have all sorts of implications for how we can use our clothes to better support ourselves in all sorts of the different aspects of our lives. But the reality is that, unless those clothes look good or feel good, we just aren't going to wear them.

All in all, we need more than fig leaves to cover our dignity and to protect ourselves from the elements in the outside world. Clothes do us this service in part or in whole, the least we can do is to make good of the clothes we wear, by putting our signature on them through fashion. This can be for purposes of identity, expression, fitting into society, or just for the feel good factor. The feel good factor is a major psychological reward, and a major contributor to the feeling happiness.
