Psychiatric evaluations involve meeting with a board-certified licensed psychiatrist, a medical doctor, who can help manage and decrease problematic symptoms through the use of medication. Psychiatrists have been trained to understand how one’s unique brain chemistry affects behaviors and emotions. Psychiatric evaluations are often recommended in conjunction with therapy as the best treatment plan for certain diagnoses.
- Prior to the first psychiatry visit baseline information is gathered through a cognitive evaluation. This will help in the treatment decision making process in the initial and ongoing sessions.
- Medical records may be required prior to a patient’s first visit; more information will be given when PBHP calls to make appointments.
